Sydney - A Global City

Sydney is Australia's largest city, and is widely recognised as one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world. Sometimes nicknamed the Emerald City (the biggest city in Oz!) it combines a sparking natural harbour with a bustling city atmosphere.

The climate is temperate in winter and warm in summer, allowing residents and visitors to take advantage of more than 70 harbour and ocean beaches, including the famous Bondi Beach.

Sydney is a multicultural city that is home to citizens from over 180 countries and 35% of its population was born overseas. This unique blend of cultures ensures a diverse mix of cafes, shops and restaurants. It's a fantastic place to live and work and has numerous eccentric districts and suburbs.

The diverse population also means there are many cultural activities as well as a host of diverse cinemas, theatres, museums and galleries. Film makers have access to the largest short film festival in the world - Tropfest - as well as many other film festivals and events.

Although a relatively young city, established only 220 years ago when British colonists settled Australia in 1788, Sydney is a combination of the old and new, which means that beautiful and unique film settings are easy to find. Landmarks to look out for include the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, Bondi Beach and the sandstone alley-ways of The Rocks.
