Writing Program

Silence.  Fade to black.

Cinema is not a visual medium, nor is it an audio-visual medium.   Hence silence and fade to black.  Cinema is a state of mind.  A particular kind of state of mind that the true cinematic writer knowingly constructs.

Cinema is a cerebral medium, a visceral medium.  It constructs a state of being that begs verification through audio-visual means, a state of being that hungers for the scope and scale and subtlety of sound and vision that the cinematic arts supply.

It's an emotional state, a physical state, a psychological state -- a state of being that hungers the visual imagery and sonic brilliance that filmmaking supplies.

Most filmmakers do not understand this fundamental principle of the filmic arts.

The moment to moment constructing of cinema

lights The International Film School Sydney is unique in that it doesn't specifically teach screenwriting as a writing discipline.  It's the fundamental skill of writers and directors, and the end result of a producers aims with regards to an audience.

Every student attends the screenwriting programm in the first year, studying the moment to moment construction of cinema, and the tools necessary to create emotionally engaging meaningful journeys over the period of 120 pages or two hours in the dark.
