Red One & Cinematic Equipment

"We're shooting Undercovers on the RED camera -- it could not look better. Gorgeous dynamic range and astoundingly low-light friendly. Before the RED, when the sun was almost set, you'd have to wrap. This camera gave us added shooting time, just when the light was at its most beautiful. If that's not enough, last night while filming (can I use that word?) the final scene, I was able to watch dailies on an iPad. Not from the day before but from the SAME DAY. An incredible picture, available instantly to view, grade, edit, anything. It blew my mind."

JJ Abrams - JJ is shooting Undercovers with the RED ONE M-X. Director/producer of Star Trek, Mission Impossible III, Lost, Alias

An exciting new acquisition for International Film School is the RED ONE 2k/4k digital cinema camera. Which you will have the opportunity to use if you study with us.

The RED ONE is a digital cinema camera recording digital information to a recording media at Super 35mm resolution. RED does not record video. Think of the RED ONE as a RAW recording digital SLR that shoots as high as 120 frames-per-second at 2K (up to 30 frames-per-second at 4K). 2K is the resolution such films as Superman and Star Wars were shot at, and most films shot on celluloid are post-produced at, as a digital intermediate.

Viewers that see RED footage for the first time either describe the quality as 65 mm film or "grainless 35". More pragmatically, it is the elimination of the cost of film and processing that make the RED ONE so economically attractive, in addition to its extraordinary quality.

A great benefit is being able to watch dailies immediately, in real time, that make shooting digital such a superior experience. In adding the extraordinarily high quality of 4K capture and at such an affordable price, RED has tipped the scales for the industry.

Directing students shoot on a number of digital formats, and use 35mm cinema lenses.

Cinematographers shoot on both celluloid and high resolution digital formats
