Screenwriting, Directing and Producing

This specialist Screenwriting, Directing and Producing course is delivered over two years (four semesters), fulltime, leading to the award of the Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media. It is suited to those seeking a professional career in the film and television industries as a writer, producer or director (students primarily interested in  cinematography / director of photography should apply for our other Advanced Diploma course).

The program is designed to build valuable skills and knowledge in the areas of screenwriting, directing and producing with complimentary skills in camera, lighting, editing and post-production, sound recording and sound design. Throughout the program there is a strong emphasis on industry knowledge and employability skills, collaboration, team building and professionalism.

How the course is taught

The course is a total immersion program, delivered over two years full-time emulating worldwide film practice. You can expect to make 5 substantial short film projects, plus 3 minor documentary-style projects during the two year program with all film production costs built into the course fees.

You will have complete creative control, using high-end production facilities and you will be encouraged and supported to enter your best work into international and local festivals and screenings. On completion of your course, copyright will rest with you as the filmmaker. Students leave with a portfolio of ideas for feature, documentary and TV projects developed to outline, treatment and project pitch stage.  Students wishing to write a feature film script alongside their studies will be provided with a range of tools and framework for developing and refining their ideas, and for writing and rewriting projects to a sophisticated level.
